Eclipse Coffee and Books in Montevallo Closing Its Doors July, 2017

Yes, the rumors are true. After 16 years in business Eclipse Coffee and Books in Montevallo will be closing its doors. The property is being sold but no plans for its use have been made public. Join the discussion in Sharing Montevallo.

We'll share any news as it becomes public about the future use of the property or potential new businesses which might try to fill that niche.

One thing is certain. Eclipse will be missed. Here is a statement from their Facebook page "It is with a confusing mix of emotions that we wish to officially announce the Grand Closing of Eclipse Coffee & Books. We had our Grand Opening 16 years ago, and we want to go out in style. Our last day of business will be July 27, 2017 and Holy Youth will be there to play us out.

For a variety of reasons, we think this is the time to go. It has been quite a ride these last 16 years, but it was bound to end at some point, and this is it. We are overwhelmed with pride about the love and community that has circled around us since we opened, and we know it will be hard to replace. We will miss the camaraderie that we experience every day at the Eclipse, and our lives will never be the same after all the love we’ve been shown. All the employees and customers have changed our lives forever, and we’ll never forget the Halloweens, the Harry Potter Potter parties, the bands and the other events that our little shop has hosted. We sincerely thank you all for the memories.

"But, for all of that, it is time for us to move on. We are staying in Montevallo, our home for more than 20 years, and Michael will still be teaching at the University. Cheryl will take a well-deserved break and will then write the next chapter of her life. We will always keep in touch with our Eclipse family, and we hope you know we could never have expected what happened after we opened our little coffee and book shop that sold sandwiches on the side in 2001.
