Montevallo Area eXpress (Max) bus will begin carrying passengers on Monday, August 13.

The BJCTA (Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority) and FTA have selected Montevallo for pilot service (test period) for a local bus route. The pilot service will run for a period, most likely until the end of this year, to establish the need for and usage of public transportation in Montevallo. This pilot program is part of a plan to potentially provide public transportation extending through parts of Shelby County and into Birmingham.

The City of Montevallo, Main Street Montevallo, and Montevallo Chamber of Commerce are urging people to take advantage of this opportunity to ride for free.

Usage of the service during the pilot program will provide the data needed to establish how successful the service could be in the future.

After the pilot program is concluded, if successful, the cost to ride the bus could be as little as 25 cents per ride. Student discounts may become available. Other options have also been discussed, such as increased service during peak traffic (festivals, sporting events, etc.). The pilot program is a test period. So ride the bus and contact your councilperson or Mayor Cost with any suggestions or comments. www.cityofmontevallo.com

This is your opportunity to participate and help facilitate positive growth in Montevallo. The service will run from 7 AM to 8 PM, Monday - Saturday. The bus also offers air conditioning and free wifi for those who like to stay cool and connected.
